Photography Business Tips: How Much Should My Studio Charge?

I created this video after I received so many emails...saying "I Can't Charge That Much In My Area" or "How do I compete with Walmart, Sears and The Picture People Photography Chains?

If you asked these questions...I made this video for you :-)

I'll give you some ideas, so you can feel confident when charging higher prices in your photography business.

Watch The Video:

As always...post a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Another great video Scott. Thanks for making that one available to us. It really is important for us NPB owners to get the pricing down correctly. Its hard to do at first, but we have to see the value of our work, and charge accordingly.

Unfortunately, many photographers and business people in general are blaming the economy and Walmart for lack of business. As a business owner, it's more important now then ever, to have the right mindset and not back off from your marketing efforts by decreasing or devaluing yourself and your work.

There is a ton of opportunity right now because many businesses are hunkering down instead of being more aggressive at getting new clients and keeping in contact with their existing ones.

As Scott pointed out, you want to make sure you qualify your clients and use "interviewing techniques" just as they do with you during the hiring process.

Thanks, Scott, for saying again what I continue to teach photographers - the economy and Walmart have nothing to do with how successful you are. If you aren't getting the results you want or had in the past, figure out what works until that runs it's course then find what works next.

That is true. I fought with my family about what prices I should charge when I started. They told me that I should keep them low because I was the new guy in town. But I knew I could do the work that the older photographers did. So i raised my rates, not as much as theirs, but I made my packages 1/2 to 1/3 as much. I still receive customers and they continue to be pleased with the quality of my work. This way you can also give the occasional few dollars off to keep them happy.
